The Palm Springs Desert Resort area is often referred to as the "golf capital of the world" with more than 118 world class public and private golf courses located in the Palm Springs area. At the beginning of 2005, there were 118 golf courses. By year's end, with 6 new courses opening during the year, the number of golf courses in the Palm Springs Desert Resort Cities area will increase to a total of 124.

Combine Palm Springs' famous weather, incomparable mountain scenery, charitable causes and thousands of bike riders, and you have the Tour de Palm Springs!
This popular annual Palm Springs charity bike ride, now in its eleventh year, Tour de Palm Springs began with just over 300 riders when local businessman Tim Esser rode his bike solo from Palm Springs to Jacksonville, Florida for charity.
Today, the Tour de Palm Springs Bicycle Ride is the largest charity bicycle event on the west coast. Thousands of bicyclists ride for more than 80 local charities in Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley. In addition, more than a thousand volunteers feed, nourish and entertain the riders from start to finish.
The Tour hosts riders of all ages and abilities and includes several routes:
5-mile flat route through downtown Palm Springs.
10-mile mostly flat route through downtown Palm Springs and environs.
25-mile mostly flat route through a few rolling hills.
55-mile and 100-mile routes with rolling hills and gradual climbs but nothing steep.

Tennis Championships
The BNP Paribas Open draws the top tennis players in the world to the Coachella Valley for an event that is becoming known as the "the fifth grand slam." The Indian Wells Tennis Garden venue features the second largest tennis stadium in the world, as well as several other stadium courts that allow viewers to see the players up-close with even the cheapest tickets. Recent winners have included Roger Federer, Leyton Hewitt, and Novak Djokovic, as well as historic names like Sampras, Agassi, and Chang. On the women's side, Lindsay Davenport, Kim Klisters, Martina Hingis, and Daniela Hantuchova are just some of the top women who have won the Pacific Life Open title.

Dinah Shore Week,
Dinah Shore Week includes the Kraft Nabisco Championship Golf Tournament, one of four major golf tournaments for women on the LPGA Tour. The Tournament was founded in 1972 by longtime desert resident Dinah Shore and is held at nearby Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage. With a purse exceeding $2 million, the winner automatically qualifies for the season-ending LPGA Playoffs at The ADT, the final LPGA season tournament. The tournament is still popularly called the Dinah Shore.
The week is always packed full of fun, women and memories that last a lifetime or as some sponsors declare, "It's all about the girls!" Several parties and events are scheduled at Palm Springs most beautiful and popular hotels and night spots, such as Hotel Zoso, the Wyndham and Hunters.
